Cold start injector disconnected... Bad all the time or just when it's cold? 200

A mechanic disconnected the cold start injector fuel line last winter on my '90 240 and plugged it off at the fuel rail. Then he left that way. It doesn't seem to plugged at the the end of the hose that would normally connect to the fuel rail.

I think he did it while trying to diagnose a rich-running condition. (He never succeeded. He gave up. I've never been back. I've warned friends away.)

Was there a good reason to leave it that way? Seems antithetical to 'repairing' an engine.

I stopped up the opening for a couple of minutes and it didn't seem to affect the idle...

It seems to me that if it's able to suck air in, the electronics may pump more gas in to adjust for the 'lean' condition.

BTW, in South Texas, it definitely not cold. Or even cool.
