Hi all, I have adopted the modo that there are no stupid questions but this one
may very well be. I have a 1991 240 with about 211,000 KM (great car). The other day I left my car idling in the driveway to bring my newborn inside prior to moving the car to the garage. The problem is that I left the car running for about 5 hours before a kind neighbor reminded me of my absentmindedness. In the 24 hours years of owning cars this has never happened before (I guess there's always a first time for everything). I probably didn't cause any damage to the engine, however I would appreciate someone's opinion for some reassurance.
When I finally went to the car, it was still runing smoothly and the temperature gauge showed a normal reading. Could this prolonged idling cause any underlying engine damage? Sorry if this is an inappriate question to post on this site.
Thank you.
