Hi all:
I pulled the engine & transmission on my 1986 Turbo Diesel to do an engine job. I had a real hard time getting the tranny off. The converter didn't want to let go of the flex disk on the engine. I wound up pulling the engine with the converter attached. I'm hoping I didn't do any damage, as this tranny was in great shape. The 3 torque converter bolts were removed, so that wasn't the problem. Any checks I can do here? I never worked on one of these.
Another question is; How far is the converter supposed to go into the bell housing? The FAQ's say an AW is supposed to go in about 3/4" past the mating surface of the Bell Housing.I can only get mine in about 1/8". No mention there on a ZF. Does this sound right or is it not completely seated?
Finally; Has anyone heard of swapping an AW for a ZF on the Turbo Diesel? The FAQ's say it's easy on the Gassers, but no menion of the diesel.
Thanks
