Ticking time bomb... 700 1987

There is noticeable ticking sound coming from
the area between intake manifold, an valve
cover. More so when the engine is cold.
I know older volvos tend to sound like sewing
machines, but this appears to be a bit excessive.
What could be causing this ?
- Timing
- Bad sensor(s)
- Plugged exhaust
- Sticky valves / lifters
- Plugged injectors
- Head gasket
- Exhaust gasket
- Intake manifold gasket
etc, etc
