Tranny failure? 700

I was useing my "86 744 to boost a clunker behind the house and when I got done, I backed the car out but would not drive forward. I read in FAQs that if a car in park is revved for a while that it may burn the bands. I did rev it for a while. It is a ZF4HP22. The fluid was not bad but now looks like motor oil in color. The shift linkage is working properly. Did I screw it up?
