445 Horn ring and button removal tricks 444-544 1959

Hi,
I tried to remove my horn ring and button following the directions in the manual: Loosen screw on side of steering hub (I removed it) press ring in and turn one quarter turn and lift up. I could not get it off. Is there somthing that I am missing or doing wrong? I did not try to force anything.
