PV445 Steering wheel repair 444-544 1959

Hi,
I have one of those really cool old banjo wire style steering wheels on my PV. Unfortunatly it has developed some cracks on the right side. My friend said not to drive the car until they are fixed or they will get a lot worse. I am taking his advice because it looks really cool and I want to keep it in as good as shape as possible.
Eastwood has a steering wheel repair kit. It comes with an instruction book, special epoxy and primer. It is not inexpensive. Does anyone have experience with this kit? Is there a suggested alternative repair method?
Thanks.
