installed radio now dash lights don't work!!! 700 1992

How likely is the realationship between installing a new radio and the dash lights not working when I turn the headlights on? I checked all the fuses and they are good - plus the other items on the dash light fuse work. When I turn off the car and turn it back on the CD player radio stations reset them selves so I think something is shorting - any likely culprits other than 2 wires grounding out?
