94 turbo vs 88 turbo 900

Just a general question. I own a 88 740 turbo and am considering a 94 940 turbo. Was there much of a change in the turbo motor over those 6 years ? Also, it appears that a six cylinder was already being used by 94. Would this be recomended over the 4T or not necessarily? Thanks, Bruce K
