I've been struggling with a summertime faux overheating condition on my 1989 240. It would do it's temp guage creep to "almost red" in stop-and-go traffic and when I'd get off the highway. I did a temperature compensation board repair (I'm a good solderer) without any change. I've replaced the thermostat and temp sender- no change. Now, I finally removed the damn temp comp board and performed the override procedure per IPD's instructions (http://www.ipdusa.com/pdf/PI-297TempBypassKit.pdf) and have been watching the "true" behavior of my temperature sender.
This is what I've been noticing: While it has not be hot enough anymore to simulate the conditions to which I used to see this possibly-false overheating, now I am seeing the temp guage go to 3/4 during my highway driving (80 MPH on the MASSPIKE for 15 miles). When I get off the highway it doesn't really go down much. So, my question is for those that have performed the bypass (sounds medical, huh?). What behaviors does your gauge go through now that it's bypassed?
