Adding an in-tank pump to a 76 240 without one - and thanks. 200 1976

Hello Brickboarders,

I hear a loud whining noise from my main pump when the gas falls to 4 gallons or so, and the car starts to run out of gas when there is still a good 2+ gallons in the tank. I know for a fact (because I looked inside the tank) that my car doesn't have the in-tank pump. I was told it was partway through the production year that they started putting them in, and that there used to be a kit to install/retrofit the early production cars. I'm thinking this might be the time to do it while the tank is drained and opened up. Has anyone done this who could advise? I know the pumps are available, but what else is required to mount it? thanks for any advice

Also, thanks much for all the good advice about cleaning throttle body/flame trap/air regulators/and swapping injection lines. It has greatly smoothed the idle on this car. Carl.
