What I've used for years to keep from scratching or denting the underlying surface is a modified paint stirrer.

Acquire a long paint stirrer, approx 15-inches, and saw in half.

Grind, file, or sand each sawn end to a 45 or 60-degree chisel-like edge.

Use these for removing door panels, lifting rubber gaskets around windshields and backlights, popping body trim, and even scraping decals from painted surfaces.
