Figured out a neat way to calculate mileage without going through an entire tankful of gas/petrol. I'm sure many have thought of this before, but it seemed so simple I thought I'd post it.
While on a highway trip, fill the tank as full as you can - almost to the point that it overflows (I know, I know - not good for the environment etc) and then reset your odometer. After abut 50-60 miles of driving, fill it chock-full again.
Highway Mileage = Odometer reading / Exact amount of gas you just filled
Doing the same thing in city driving will get you your city-mileage.
Of course - the longer you drive before filling it again, the better your average, but the calculation has been pretty accurate for me even for 50-60 mile runs.
