I am in the market for a new engine. My local junkyard seems to be well stocked with late model volvo 240's and 740's. I have a B230F out of an 88 740GLE.
Aside from just making sure the engine rotates, what types of things should I be looking for in the donor engine? Should I take off the head? What will it tell me if I do? I've seen some people do this and check for a ridge in the cylinder bore... not sure what that means.
Is there a way to tell if the engine has poor compression just sitting there?
what would you do?
Thanks.
