Some of you might know me from the 200 board, new to 700's so I know who to ask. My nephew bought a 740 today and called me in distress so I had it towed over. Here's what I've got so far.
After his 30 minute test drive and then 70 or so miles on freeway OK, sputtered, then stalled out, wouldnt restart. After tow, started but ran very poorly. Died, and now will not run at all.
Have good white spark at plugs. Confirmed cam/distributor is turning. Hunted for but never found the ubiquitous underhood injection fuse 200's have, then emptied the last of my tequila into my bloodstream as i pondered where i might find the fuses for this car ("where the HELLL is the fussse trayyyyy... hic!"). At this point, nephew takes over on wrenches under my drunken direction.
Excellent fuel delivery at fuel rail, filled up the tequila bottle 1/3 the way with only ten seconds cranking. Haven't checked pressure reading yet. No visible contamination of fuel i.e. water settle.
Looked around for any source of vacuum or post-AMM leak, tightened the somewhat loose flexible hose connecting AMM to throttle body. No change.
Disconnected battery then AMM. Reconnected battery and no start. Disconnected battery, reconnected AMM, etc etc. still no start.
At this point, i am suspecting a possible jumped timing belt. Any simple test to confirm/deny this? Any other telltale tests I've missed? I'll be digging into this tomorrow morning as soon as i wake up from my tequila induced coma.
