Overheating indication, but no smoke........ 200 1993

Twice in the past week, the following has happened:
After starting my 1993 245 with no hesitation , no idle problems, no misfiring, etc, I let it warm for a minute, then started to drive.( I live in New Orleans and it's still summer here, so there are no cold engines) Approx. ten minutes into the trip, the temp. gague starts moving towards the red zone. I stopped, turned the car off, lifted the hood: no steam, smoke, etc. After sitting for 10-20 min, I started the car again. Both times there were no more problems the rest of the day; the needle stayed right in the center. Could the thermostat just be shot? I had a coolant flush recently and all belts changed after I purchased the car three weeks ago(in addition to tune up, filter, etc.)
