Help! Can't find my coolant thermostat 200 1988

Trying to fight my cold engine running problem, I attempted to take a look on my thermostat to find out if it's working ok.

That's one end of the upper radiator-to-motor hose:



That's other one:




I can't see my coolant thermostat - am I looking in a wrong place? '88 B230F AW70 LH2.4
