I've been having fuel problems with my '87 744T(245K miles), and, being cheap, decided to install a Pierburg (made in USA???) instead of the more expensive Bosch main pump.
DOES NOT BOLT IN!!!
1) You have to reuse the Bosch check valve, even though the Pierburg has it's own. They do provide the copper washer, though.
2) You Have to remove the rubber boot(?) surrounding the Pierburg pump and substitute a ~1/4" foam wrapping (I used 1/4"X2" pipe insulation), or the pump won't fit in the stock clamp.
3) You have to cut off the Bosch electrical connectors, and crimp on lugs provided with the Pierburg pump; there's no way in hell the provided rubber covers for the connections can be installed; I sprayed the connections with undercoating.
4) So far, it works.
