2.9 vs. 2.3t? What's better, 740 - 940 - rwd s90? 700

I currently have an '89 745t, but I'm wondering if a later 940 or even the RWD S90 might be better cars?

Is the 2.9 straight 6 as durable as the 2.3 or 2.3 turbo?

My 745t is awesome, but might be nice to have something newer!?
