ok, guys, I finally shelled out some serious dough for this $$$ job! as is always the case when I (have to) spend major bucks on a repair--even if that repair was done by professionals and was the most affordable--I feel a need to ask the question if I got a deal or got ripped off. here was what was done:

1. '92 transmission from a 740/940 (place wasn't exactly sure) with unknown mileage put in, front and rear tranny seals changed plus new filter
2. torque converter changed along with tranny
3. rear engine seal changed
4. tranny mount changed
5. 3 months warr.

**does #1 sound right for my '89 245 auto with O/D as far as compatiability is concern?**

total came out to be $830. this was the most affordable and perhaps the most sincere place I could find. other volvo indie shops have quoted me higher; the most $$$ was around $1200. the lowest was $650, but the place later said $750 when I asked months later and said that it would be another $130 to do the rear engine seal! I mentioned that the tranny would be out anyway, so labor for the RE seal should not be expensive. he said something about labor-intensive work removing some nuts blah blah. I was insulted because he took me for a fool. I don't know if the torque converter is normally changed with a tranny swap, but none of these shops mentioned it. in addition, the quotes I got did not include tranny mount, RE seal, or the back tranny seal (most places said the front will be changed though). these additions add $ to the price of the actual tranny swap. after lots of questions and looking for the right shop, I opted for this volvo salvage yard to work on my swedish princess. first thing I checked was if the O/D worked with the new tranny. the orange arrow turned off and on when I depressed the button. is this a good indication that the O/D works? car shifts fine, but I have not had a chance to drive it on the freeway. is there anything I NEED to GO OVER after a tranny swap?

how well did I fare on this repair price-wise? and how about getting the necessary parts changed? was there anything I should have changed, like the bushings? btw, I don't now where you guys live, but here you cannot find used transmissions for $200 and under! most places charge about $250 minimum for labor if you bring yer own tranny in. and besides, most shops prefer getting their own source, I guess for warranty issues. thanks!
