Lubricant viscosity causing knock? 700 1985

I recently purchased a 1985 760 Turbo. The gent I bought it from recommended I use Mobil 1 synthetic 15w/50 due to the mileage being over 200K. I’ve been doing a lot of reading on the Brickboard and found many posts saying that viscosity is too "thick". When I start the car in the morning I hear a knock that gradually gets quieter after the engine warms up. Could this knock be contributed to the lubricant I’ve been using or is it something else? Should I consider using a “thinner” lubricant?

Thanks in advance,
Tim
