Sunroof crank to motor electrical diagnosis 700 1987

Car came with sunroof crank, bought used sunroof motor and switch. Wired up (I think) as per the FAQ, but unfortunately, no movement of sunroof, doesn't make a move or a sound, not even a "click". So, my wiring job is suspect. So, could use some advice on grounding points and use of a multimeter for diagnosis.

The brown ground wire on the motor, I attached to one of the two small screws in the block metal pan that the motor sits in. The screw is toward the front of the car between the motor and the windshield. First question: like I said there were two screws in this area - either one should work as ground?

The FAQ said to connect blue/yellow wire of the switch to the appropriate fuse in the fuse box. My fuse box indicates that fuse #21 is for the sunroof. Flipping the fuse panel over, there are three male blades sticking out of the fuse #21 area, two of which are already populated. So, I just put a female blade end on the blue/yellow wire and attached it to the third (and only free) blade in the fuse #21 area. Is this correct?

The FAQ also said to attach the black switch wire to ground. In the non-sunroof specific (but grounding specific) area of the FAQ, it said that there is a ground under the plastic panel in the driver's footwell area. I removed the panel and found two 12mm bolts. I removed the top one and attached my black ground wire to it. Is my choice of bolts appropriate?

I suppose I should have bench-tested the motor itself before putting it in. Not having a 12V source, is it safe (or a good idea) to just use jumper cables from the Volvo's battery, place a nail in each jump clamps and very carefully apply the nail to the motor wiring (outside of the car) to see if it moves?

Thanks in advance!
