In tank pump2 700

After replacing my in-tank fuel pump and sending unit, my fuel guage stopped working. The new connector was slightly different, however, i just cut it off and wired it up to the main wirring harness. To make a long story short I basically tried every possible combinatoin possible and still can't get the damn fuel guage to work. (I'm pretty sure its not a wiring problem) Is my sending unit faulty (purchased new)? what else could be the problem?
