I have a rough idle on a 1988 240 that runs really nice otherwide. No missing in regular diriving so I have ruled out ignition wires. Have swaped the air mass meter and computer with my 1986 240. The rough idle only occurs on the '88. Doesn't seem to be any air leaks on the intake side of the '88.
So I am looking toward Idle Control Valve problem. Cleaned it up nice but still idles rough.
Is there a way to test the Idle Control Valve with a multimeter to determine whether it is the source of my problem and needs to be replaced? If not, can I safely do the substitution that follows:
The 86 and 88 share the same computer and the same air mass meter, but not the same Idle Control Valve. Anybody tried a substitution of Idle Control Valves between an 86 (#0280140501)and an 88 (#0280140520)? Do I risk damage to the system to try this subsitution?
