Idle racing intermitent problem? 200 1988

Idle will race intermitently for a period of about 15 seconds (rpm of racing varies). Most of the time idle is okay. Have read many of the posts regarding idle problems and have tried all of the recommended solutions except checking the wire harness. Is the harness on a 1988 240 DL Non-turbo wagon known for having problems? Any recomendations would sure be appreciated. Been trying to solve this problem for about 2 years. Thanks!!!
