Differential ratio question 200

My differential is 3.91 on the '80 245 M46

A couple of days ago I read a post indicating that one gets faster acceleration from stop than a lower gear ratio. But a lower gear ratio gives faster highway speeds at the same engine rpms.

Since I'm not into racing (jack rabbit starts) but would want better mileage, I'm thinking a lower gear ratio would be better.

But, when carrying/pulling a heavy load uphill from a stop, would I be more likely to stall with a high or low gear ratio?
