93 240 no start / 200 1993

Hello all,

my 93 240 (135K miles) lost power while I was on the highway... pulled off ..checked all the usual hoses.. and continued on to a auto parts store..(still losing power under acceleration).. when I came out to restart the car... dead.. would crank.. but no start.

my mechanic has:
checked and replaced main fuel pump... then realized that the fuel system was basically shutting down after cranking.
has rebuilt the distributor with a bushing kit
checked all grounds, RPM switch, fuel pump relay.

if he puts the distributor wire to the negative of the battery.. the car will start (albeit roughly).. once he goes back to the distributor.. the system shuts down.

any thoughts?
