Power steering puked out all its fluid, now it seems to be fine...What gives? 200 1981

When I bought this 245 the guy had a bottle of power steering fluid in the storage bay, but I really never thought about it. When I went to work the other night I didn't have any power steering even though it was working fine the previous night when I parked it. On the way, I added some, and looked under the car to see a stream of fluid draining out. At home, there is a streak of fluid where it belched it all out the night before just as I rolled in to park it.

On the way home I stopped at Autozone and added some fluid to see which hose I needed, but nothing was leaking, and the power steering started working fine. I even had a guy there turn the wheel while I was looking under the car, and no leaks that I could see. I went ahead and bought the return line, since a leak in the pressure side should be spraying like a fire hose, and maybe I'll get under it to check it out when it gets warmer. Maybe the split in the return line closed back up when it warmed up or something.

Surely a steering rack seal wouldn't act like this. Any thoughts?
