Cam spacer, B20 1800

I was reading an article on Vclassics (Phil?)regarding an engine teardown, and mention was made of a spacer that is located behind the cam gear, and the importance of not losing it. I just pulled the fibre cam gear and cam out of my engine tonight, and I notice there is no spacer present. I checked the Volvo parts book and can't seem to find one listed. Anyone know what this spacer might be?
