Exhaust emission warning light 200 1996

The exhaust warning light has just popped up on the dashboard and also noticed at the same time that although starting off doesn't seem to be affected, once I hit 60 mph the car seems to not want to play any more. It's acts as if it has hit a rev delimiter or misfiring slightly. Any ideas?
