fuel gauge 93 940 wagon 260K and counting!

Hi again! Since my last post about my fuel gauge problem:

replaced my battery and the fuel gauge worked like a charm for about a month. Since then I drove it it the rain, and suddenly, the gauge dropped to zero. And oddly enough, the check engine light went out at the same time.

I'm glad to see the check engine light go out, but I would rather have my fuel gauge and the check engine light on than not have a fuel gauge at all.

Should I start whacking the dash (as most suggest) or, is there someone who has experienced this happening to them? Could it be corrosion? Where to look?

Or, start cursing Swedish engineering?
