ACC controller to standard or manual controller? 700

Has anyone converted from the ACC style ('87 760 turbo) to the plain manual style?

If so...what do I need to do, besides the controller,possible relay (behind glove box) and the heater valve?...and could a newer style (89,90) manual control be used, i.e. with the 3 round knobs?

I have to go back into the dash again soon and was just thinking if it would not make things easier.
