check O2 sensor 700

I have an 89 740T, @168K, and I suspect my O2 sensor is bad. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I read the easy way to check it is by disconnecting it under the hood, after the car has warmed up. If disconnecting it does not affect how the engine runs- makes it slow down or miss, then the sensor is bad. To make sure I have the right wire, isn't the connector on the firewall, on the right side, a single medium guage green wire with a plastic connector terminating in a spade lug?

Thanks in advance
