'fault in fuel injector' according to computer 200 1989

Just purchased a nice 240. The check engine light is on and the previous owner said it recently came on while driving through a decent amount of water from one of our hurricanes down here. Its running quite rich and the computer has given the code for fault in fuel injector, along with "compensating for extremely rich/lean mixture". All injectors are clicking and have the right resistance. Would a good cleaning of the injectors solve this or is it possible the problem is not in the injector(s) at all? There are no codes for anything else (air mass meter, O2 sensor, etc.) Any leads would be wonderful.
