B230F vs. Eta engine in the BMW 325e

Hello.

I've read up a little on the Eta engine that came in the BMW 325e and 528e cars from the 80s. It sounds like an interesting design - low horspower, powerful torque, straight six that gets 36 mpg on the highway. Does anyone have experience/information on this engine? How might it compare with the B230F in terms of mechanical simplicity, longevity, and power? What about the shade tree mechanic and this engine - easy or really hard? I have some ideas, but any experienced imput (or second-hand information for that matter) is appreciated.

regards,
-pu
