Hi all,

I am about to install a mechanical oil pressure gauge on my 1985 740 turbo. The oil pressure sensor/sending unit receptacle area in the block is as best as I can tell located by the oil filter.

This sensor - is it there for more than the idiot light, or does it also feed the ECU data that it needs to run properly?

If the car can run with the false data going to the computer (if any goes to it now) then I'll just run my mechanical gauge. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Also - I don't yet understand the complexities of my turbo charged Volvo but a buddy has encouraged me to install a valve that will allow me to limit the amount of vacuum that would open the waste gate. Being a big believer in "you don't get something for nothing" what's the catch? I splice in this valve, and open it 3/4 open, and that will give me 50 more horse power? The valve, clamps and hose was $12. Is there something he forgot to mention?

Finally - I've been discovering the dreaded rotten wiring under the hood. Is this bad wiring a problem through out the cars, or just under the hood?

To date I've been tracing the bad wire as far up until I hit a main bundle, then I cut, attach new wire with crimping connectors, then shrink wrapping the connection. Does this problem with the wires continue in the larger trunk of wires, or just to the ones with direct exposure?
