Hello All,
I have a question for those of you who own or know 240s. I've never owned one, but I'm the owner of an '89 745 that I installed a Ford EFI V8 into, so I'm quite handy and know Volvos in general pretty well.
My brother has an '87 244 that he keeps in barely-functional condition. I'm worried the shop he uses is ripping him off--they just charged him $725 to replace some coolant hoses, the coolant tank, and the oxygen sensor! Now they want $550 to do the alternator. I've replaced many alternators in my life, and have never run across one that required $300 worth of labor to install. Is there something unusually difficult about replacing a 240 alternator? If not, and if that ludicrous price is unjustified, I'm inclined to replace it for him, but I don't want to do too much difficult work. The part is only $200.
Thanks in advance for any replies!
George
