I have been hearing a metallic sounding rattling/tapping noice on my 94 960 wagon. It appears when driving under light load and can be simulated by putting the car in drive and holding the brake while applying light pressure to the accelerator. Initially thougth it was coming from the rear of the engine but upon closer inspection traced it closer to the A/T bell housing area.
A shop suspected it was the starter gear hitting the flywheel teeth. I did pull the starter to have it rebuilt as it was hanging up occassionally when starting, however the noise is still present. I have seen postings on other sites describing same noise but with no responses. Any ideas? Thanks in advace.
