battery gauge dropping 700

Hello, the battery gauge on my 87 740 turbo drops a little when I turn my lights on or use any electric device, and a lot when I turn on the heat/ac/defroster almost all the way down. When I turn the light on the speedo jumps as well, and ideas on what might be wrong? Just a weak battery? Thanks.
