B23F auto: VX or A cam? 200 1984

This is a spin-off from a thread I started some time earlier.
The car is an 84 240GLE automatic with 180000km (11200mile) on the clock.
I have D, A and VX cams. I am currently running the VX with adjustable cam timing, and haven't been impressed in either advanced or retarded position (anywhere from 2 to 5 degrees either way). It does not seem any different than the original D cam, although my wallet is some $300 lighter ($106 Cdn just for UPS!!!!!!).
Will the A cam provide any different results, or should I just accept the B23F just as it is?
I am not after stellar power, as I know that that is not going to happen with this car. What I am looking for is better power climbing hills or accelerating at highway speeds, with the OD kicked out (i.e. in third).
