About 6 months ago I purchased an 83 240 and I just love it! I am a college student and without a lot of money so I was very happy to get such a great deal on this car, I got a great deal on it. The guy who sold it to me said because it only has two doors the model I own is somewhat rare. it has the usual problems of a 20+ year old car with over 200K miles on it but for the most part it runs great. A short while back the headlight knob came off while I was trying to turn them on. It was dark outside and I wasn't home yet, a bad situation. I drove home with my brights on and decided to handle the problem when it was light outside. I had to end up taking apart the whole dash apart to get to the knob and try to put it back together. The whole switch had somehow come apart and I had to get a new one from a local volvo parts shop, luckily here in Atlanta there are quite a few. Anyway I got the headlights working again but in the process I ended up inadvertently disconnecting the odometer and the speedometer. The guidebook I bought on this car from the local auto parts store was a bit too genaralized to be of any help in reconnecting it. The diagrams in the book didn't really show very well what was involved in taking apart the dash. I suppose if i knew about this site back then I wouldn't have had this problem, I just found it. it's pretty cool. As I said I don't have much money so when stuff goes wrong with the car I try to fix it myself, I really need a better book because the one I have is just not specific enough to be of much help in fixing this problem. I have been driving around now without a speedomoeter or odometer now for a while. I am hoping someone can give me some advice on how to remedy this problem. If you can direct me to a book which may show some better diagrams or just some advice about the problem I would be very greatful. When I tried to do this originally the cables didn't seem to be long enough to fit unless the dash was in place but then I couldn't get my arm around to put them in or get my head under there to see how to do it. Please help! Thank you, Scott
