Is it okay to buy a used fuel pump for a 240 turbo?

I found a recycler that has a used fuel pump for my 1983 240 turbo that I can get for $60. Is there a way that I make sure it works. Is this a good way to save money, or should I not be so cheap and just buy a new one? I think that the car has been wreaked for about a year that has the fuel pump. how hard is is going to be to pull? Thanks for any information, and happy bricking!
