broke-down diesel '84 wagon 200 1984

Hi All,

I am new to the Volvo World, and I have a question. I am looking into buying a diesel wagon. I have a car in my sites it is a '84 GL Wagon, but it has a few needs. The cylinder head needs to be replaced, and I have talked to a volvo mechanic and he tells me I might as well just put a new motor in the car. He says this because it may coast nearly the same to fix the cylinder head and all the other problems that the broken cylinder head may have caused. The paint on the hood is cracked and needs to be repainted. The seats are also torn. On the good side, the body is straight, no rust, all the glass is good, no water leaks into the interior, 158K miles. I can buy the car for $200, but it is going to cost me about $3000 to put a rebuilt motor in. So I am looking a about $3200 to have a running Volvo Wagon. Is this worth my time and effort. I don't mind buying a project car, but I don't want to buy a money trap. I need some Volvo Enthusiast advice. Or if anyone knows of another diesel wagon for sale on the West Coast I'd love to hear about it.
