Hi,
I don't seem to be able to make my responses visible as new so here is the link to the original posts http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=878494&show_all=1
Here's the update and current trouble. Thanks for the advice, everyone.
Here's what happened. I took the car to the local Volvo repair shop where they will put on customer parts. They said there was no vacuum leak but the injectors were bad. They were trying to save me money, they said, and put on four used injectors they had in the shop, presumably from one of the many Volvos in various states of disintegration that occupy the shop grounds. They were the best used ones they could find, they said. Now, although the noise is a little better, the whole car pulsates (the doors, the steering wheel and and I can even see the passanger seat vibrate when I'm in drive mode and stopped). I can feel the vibration through the door and steering wheel. Worse than before. They say it's the injectors and new ones will cost nearly 100 dollars each. What now? Is that it? Can I get them cheaper? The car has about 175000 miles on it and has what sounds like a piston rattle especially when cold. I've been told this is not necessarily so (unlike the Tercel that preceeded this car). What to do? Will new injectors on my old engine be different than these used and cleaned ones? This is getting expensive.
They replaced some belts to help with the road noise. I haven't gone fast enough to see if that fixed the problem. I'm just annoyed that after another 325 dollars (100 for the used injectors and 2 1/2 hourse labor) I've got even more vibration than before. Any suggestions?
Thanks everyone for such great help and apologies for not figuring out how to make my comments on my thread appear in the daily message list.
