AWB light 900 1995

The AWB light in my '95 960 will com on occasionally. Sometimes it will go for a month without coming on, sometimes it will come on several times a week. It usually stays on until the ignition is switched off.
Mechanic said I needed new brakes, he put on new front brakes, said I didn't need rear and the light still comes on intermittently. The brakes seem to be in good working order.
Any suggestions?
