For those who didn't read the previous post, the car would idle with good
fuel pressure but faltered and died under any load. Fuel pressure took a
dive at the same time. I've checked and the fuel pump does run most of the
time but only puts up about 40 psi, and the in-tank pump seems to be running,
at least I can hear a whirring sound through the gas filler. We did have the
tank out and had it cleaned and repaired just a couple weeks ago so I am
pretty sure it is not a sediment problem. When I jumped fuses 5 and 7 the
pump ran intermittently but did not put up more than about 40 psi. The pressure
went down when I turned it off.
I'm pretty well convinced that it is the main pump. Think I oughta pull the
in-tank pump first, or fill the tank completely? It is about half full now.
I guess if that solves the problem we would assume that it is the in-tank
pump and if not, it is the main pump, Right?
