Fuel Tank Sender and Pump Assembly - Extra Unused Nipple? 700 1987

Hey Folks,

I fixed my leaking fuel pipe yesterday and replaced all the fake SS clamps with real all SS clamps on top of the sender assembly through the access panel in the trunk.

I doesn't seem to leak anymore, but I noticed one extra nipple that was not connected to anything. Does anyone know if it should be connected to something, what it is for and should I do something about it?

I made a little schematic posted at my photo gallery at this address:
http://images5.fotopic.net/?iid=y5vvr7&outx=800&oq=0

The nipple in question is in red in teh picture.

BTW, the 1/2" (outlet) hose goes at the bottom of the third nipple, the one that has a smaller inside nipple extending from it. The one below it seems to be the return line, the one above is connected to the inlet pipe, probably for venting.

Also, is there a better term than "nipple" for this part? It seems so agricultural, as if we were talking about cows!

TIA for your input,
Chris
