new injector kit problem? 700

i am replacing the injector seals and caps on 740 non turbo .the injectors are yellow.1989.all the o rings fit correctly. the plastic spacer is too large which i accept as being typical for some of these kits.the caps in the kit are longer than the original caps by a sixteenth of an inch.they definatley snap on the injector but leave the injector tip that much further back in the cap. my feeling is to use the old caps.has anyone any feedback on this.thanks for looking and thanks for any help.
