89 240 fuel system and ignition system problems HELP! 200 1989

O.K. I need to give you a little history on the car itself so you will know where I walked into it from. The car is a 1989 240 DL that stopped running about 3 years ago. The previous owner tells me that they drove home one afternoon and it was running great but the next morning it wouldn't crank. The owner thinking he was a mechanic thought he would fix it himself. He tried everything to fix the car replacing the ECU the EZ-116K and a host of other parts but he just couldn't get it to run. He said the fuel pumps would run if he "hot wired" them but the engine still wouldn't start. Now enter me. I bought the car this summer and trailered it home. Most of the dash and inside covers were still off along with most of the electrical components on the passenger side. I reinstalled the used ECU and Ignition unit and started trouble shooting. The under hood inspection showed no MASS meter or Idle motor and the timing cover was missing. I started trying to get the fuel pumps to run and noticed it wouldn't fire a spark plug either. I checked the ECU and found no power on it. I looked under the hood and found the main system fuse blown. As soon as I replaced the fuse the fuel pumps tried to run and the coil would fire. My first thought was "this idiot replaced everything when only the fuse was bad". The fuel pumps were locked up from sitting so long with bad gas in them so I replaced both fuel pumps and bought a MASS meter off the internet. As soon as I put the parts on the engine fired right up, it didn't run very well but it did run. The engine would try to die because of a HUGE flat spot right off idle, very similar to the MASS meter being bad. I ran diagnostics on it and the codes came back for a "missing signal from the air flow sensor" and the "throttle switch not functioning". I just so happened to have a new throttle switch sitting in the shop that fit the same year model. I ran the test at the diagnostic connector with the old throttle switch and it shows bad one time and good the next. No problem I just replaced it with the new one (which shows bad and then good). I ordered another MASS meter and installed it. No change in the diagnostic codes, they both remained and the engine runs just as bad as it did.

The sticker on the door says that the car was built in August of 88 so I assume its a '89 because that's what the title says.

Now for the questions:

1. Is it possible that I have the wrong MASS meter when they both check O.K. and are both for a 1989 240 with a jetronic 2.4. I want to say that the last three digits of the part number are 016.

2. Could I have the wrong ECU? I noticed in a thread further down the board that it appears several different ECU's will fit it. The part number on the ECU I have is not readable.

3. I pulled the wiring connector from the MASS meter and it looks like the MASS meter I have is a 6 wire but when I look at at the connector it looks like a 6 wire connector with the 6th wire missing. Is there such a thing??

This is a very nice car that I need to be driving. The car has 200,000 so it's just a baby. The previous owner left so many parts off and tried so many things that I'm not sure what he screwed up. HELP!!! Please!!!
