Loud Thunking Sound...transmision? 200 1989

So whenever I make a left turn from a stop and accelerate HARD I hear this really loud thunking sound which seems to come from right below my e-brake lever. Havent been able to get it to do it when turning right, but haven't tired very much becasue its a really bad sounding noise...I've never heard a car make a noise this loud. Up untill now I've just not driving in a way which makes my car make the noise, but sometimes I just have to accelerate that hard in order to turn left on a really busy street, plus it might be something thats going to get worse.

Any ideas what this could be....is it a really big deal, or should I just not drive so hard?
